A fine Edo school boxwood netsuke of a karako with a scroll, by Shûmin. Mid-19th century

Seated and holding on to the cord tied to a scroll at his back, the garment folds deeply carved, the scroll with a flower pattern imitating brocade. The end knobs of the scroll of black wood, the cord holes lined with natural and green-stained ivory. Signed Shûmin.
