An ivory netsuke of a crescent moon with hares inside. Late 19th century

A tusk segment is carved in the shape of a crescent moon with two hares pounding mochi while a third hare is making small dumplings, amidst waves in openwork relief. The water drops on the waves of green glass, the eyes of the hares of brownish glass.
