Édouard Boubat - biography

Boubat enrolled at the "École Estienne" in 1938 where he trained to become a photo-engraver until 1942. In 1943, he was sent to Leipzig and endured forced labor in a factory. At the end of WWII he bought his first camera and in 1947 was already exhibiting his photographs at the "Parisian Salon International de la Photographie", where he was awarded the Kodak Prize. In the 1950s and 1960s he travelled the world as a reporter for the French magazine "Realités", documenting the daily life of people in almost every corner of the planet. In 1968 he left the prestigious magazine and continued working independently, attaining international recognition and a wide arrange of prizes, including the Hasselblad Award (1988).
