Eugène Boudin - biography

Eugène Boudin, one of the most important plein-air painters of his time, is considered a pioneer of Impressionism with his method and style of rendering a variety of atmospheric lights. After training as a printer and working as a stationer, Boudin dedicated himself entirely to painting in 1844, inspired by Jean-Francois Millet. Obtaining a scholarship from the city of Le Havre, he spent 1851 to 1853 in Paris, where he studied the painting of the old Dutch masters in the Louvre as well as the works of the Barbizon School.
