Eugène Boudin

He was appreciated by painters such as Corot, Gustave Courbet, Degas, and not least Claude Monet, and also attracted the attention of many writers such as Charles Baudelaire. From 1854, Boudin lived on the Normandy coast, alternating between Le Havre and Honfleur, from where he undertook numerous trips, in particular to Brittany. His extensive painterly work was created from 1863 onwards, and his pastels especially paved the way for Impressionism, with a thematic focus on beach scenes and marine and landscape pictures. In 1881, Paul Durand-Ruel was Boudin’s most important gallerist, acquiring 318 paintings by the artist alone between 1881 and 1894.
