Sebastiano Conca - biography

Sebastiano Conca studied in Naples under Francesco Solimena. In 1706, Sebastiano settled in Rome, where he resided until 1751. In the Eternal City, he landed under the protection of Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and later Pope Clement XI, from whom he obtained commissions such as the frescoes in San Clemente and San Giovanni in Laterano, as well as The Crowning of St. Cecilia in Santa Cecilia in Trastevere (1725). His works were later sought by the royalty of Spain, Portugal, and Poland and by the Elector of Cologne.
