Carl Grossberg - biography

Carl Grossberg is an important representative of the painting of the New Objectivity. Before serving as an officer in the First World War, Grossberg had initially studied architecture in Aachen and Darmstadt. In 1919 he switched to painting and studied at the Weimar Academy of Art, with Walther Klemm, and at the Bauhaus, with Lyonel Feininger. From the early 1920s onwards, the artist created detached views of German and Dutch cities devoid of people.
