Fritz Wagner

Fritz Wagner undertook numerous study trips through Europe, especially to Romania, Hungary and Italy. His decision to depict historical costumes and scenery was a conscious one, given the high decorative value of these motifs. Although the success of his paintings was primarily due to the extremely detailed figures and the beautifully designed interiors, the artist was particularly successful in giving the people depicted an individual character that transcended all purely decorative values. His favourite subjects were inns, whose lively hustle and bustle with drinking parties, card games and dances he depicted with great vividness. Fritz Wagner was a member of the Reich Association of Visual Artists in Germany.

Frit Wagner died on 3rd April 1939 in his birthplace and hometown of Munich.
