The oeuvre of Francisco Barranco, who has been proved to have been working as an artist in the 1640s and 1650s in Seville, is rather narrow and consists mainly of kitchen still lives, as in the present picture. These still lives, (bodegones), confidently and fluidly painted, depict primarily common everyday objects in a simple kitchen setting. The present painting contains a particularly rich composition of various foods as well as numerous pots, dishes and plates.
