Hötzendorf studied with J. F. Beich in Munich and later in Rome where he lived from 1720. In 1723 he moved to Vienna. In Austia the Benedictine order Göttweig near Krems became one of his most important patrons. In 1728 he painted the altar piece and in 1735 frecos for the staircase for them. Hötzendorf also painted landscapes and was appreciated for his brushstroke, his use of perspective as well as his rendition of the air and the tree foliage.
