Cologne School, circa 1420

SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST THE VIRGIN WITH CHILD

Oil on panel (parquetted). 92 x 41 and 92 x 39 cm.

Two panels belonging to the wings of an altarpiece; the artist from the circle of the Master of the Legend of Veronica. The Virgin and Saint John standing in a meadow in front of a red background with regular pomegranate pattern. The gilt halos in relief. The panel depicting Saint John with an unfinished restoration to the left edge (after 1930).

Provenance
