Dr. Werner Schade confirmed the paintings as authentic works by Lucas Cranach the Younger and suggests they once formed parts of a small altarpiece. The couple married in 1560, Agnes Countess von Barby died nine years later, in 1569. The work must have been painted sometime during these nine years.
