Oil on canvas 41 x 53.8 cm, mounted on panel, framed. Signed and dated 'Champion 1941' in dark brown lower left. - Very good condition, the varnish slightly yellowed.

In 1941 Theo Champion rented a former dance hall in Xanten to use as a studio. To the circle of artists working in Xanten at the time belonged, amongst others, Gustav Ruhnau and Carl and Emil Barth. Architectural viewpoints have been intentionally omitted in our work. His landscapes since the 1930s, with their largely naturalistic tendencies, testify to a neo-romanticism. Also reflected here is an approach towards the landscape painting of the 17th century.
