Ann-Pierre de Kat was a portrait and landscape painter. He studied at the academies in Delft and the Hague before moving to Brussels in 1901. De Kat soon appeared as a follower of the Brabant Fauvism and Belgian Luminism, a stylistic tendency of Postimpressionism. The encounter with works by Cranach and Breughel led to a more strict, classical approach to his painting.
