We would like to thank Ronald Feltkamp, Brussels, for kind additional information.

Van Rysselberghe had moved to Paris in 1897. In the next two years he spent the summer months in Ambleteuse near Boulogne sur Mer. Here his neighbours and close friends were the composer Georges an his wife, the singer Laure Flé. Between 1897 and 1899, Van Rysselberghe portrayed Laure Flé again and again.
This is a lively, animated portrait, showing the singer in a calm attitude.

Provenance

Formerly Laure Flé, Ambleteuse; private collection, France
