Clara Witte-Pelz, born in Osnabrück in 1886, received her artistic training in Worpswede, Karlsruhe, Berlin and Munich. During study trips to Holland and Paris she became familiar with the latest artistic developments and in 1912 she exhibited at the Berlin Secession. Witte-Pelz developed, alongside the work of her husband, the painter Curt Witte, an original artistic conception. Under the Nazi regime the artist was however forbidden to paint; only a small part of her oeuvre has survived.
