Carl Reichert

THREE DOGS AFTER THE HUNT

Oil on canvas. 46 x 40 cm.
C. Reichert. Wien. 905.

Carl Reichert came from an Austrian family of artists: His father Heinrich was a painter of portraits and animals, his brother (of the same name) painted theatre scenery. Carl studied in Graz and Munich, and in Rome under Ludwig Johann Passini and Anton Romako from 1866 - 1867. He lived in Vienna until 1869, before moving to Graz in 1910.
This artist became famous for his detailed and brilliant depictions of dogs and cats. This finely painted work shows three hunting dogs with their kill and a hunting rifle in a rustic interior.
