Minimal wear. Height 56 cm (with plinth).

A terracotta portrait bust of Georges-Louis Leclerk, Compte de Buffon. Worked in the round, with an original polychrome clay plinth. A portrait bust of the French scientist Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788), director of the Royal Gardens in Paris. This terracotta is based on a bust by Jean Antoine Houdon and is inscribed "Houdon f" to the left outer edge, and was probably made in France in the 19th century.
