A rare Delft faience tea caddy

Cuboid form decorated on each side with crowned monograms in oval reserves. The base monogrammed H.S.R (presumably for Frederic van Hesse). Screw lid with plaster, two minor glaze chips to one corner. H 13 cm
Delft, presumably Frederic van Hesse, presumably 20th C.

For more information on the rare mark of the faience maker Frederic van Hesse see Harvard, L´histoire de la Fayence de Delft, Paris 1878, p. 341. Little is known about van Hesse, he appears to have specialised in boxes and saucers of all kinds, but we also know of a centrepiece with a longer signature. The R indicates that he may have managed the de Roos manufactory for a number of years.
