Maria Amalia of Habsburg (1701-1756) was the youngest daughter of Emperor Joseph I. In 1722 she married the Bavarian Elector Karl Albrecht, and became Empress of the Holy Roman Empire upon his election as Emperor in 1742. The Amalienburg hunting lodge on the grounds of Nymphenburg Palace, one of the most significant architectural creations of the Bavarian Rococo style, was built for and named after her.
