Two Floral Still Lifes with Insects and Butterflies

Oil on canvas (relined). Each 52 x 44.5 cm.
One signed lower left, the other lower right: J. G. Pickhardt, one dated 1721..

Johann Georg Pickhardt the Elder belonged to the second generation of a large extended family from Wolfenbüttel and Brunswick which brought forth artists until well into the 19th century. We know that Johann Georg worked in Magdeburg in 1699 and later became a court painter in Wolfenbüttel.
