Roh, who was mainly known for his journalistic work, also worked as a photographer until 1933 although he did not publish his ouevre. He rather „concealed his production - comprising mostly of reverse prints, montages and collages, and occasionally also combinations of these techniques - for quite some time. He thus made his very own contribution to the experimental art of the camera of the 20s and 30s.” (cited after Catrin Klingsöhr-Leroy, introduction, in: Franz Roh. Kritiker, Historiker, Künstler, exhib.cat. Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst, Munich 1990, p. 9)
