Conrad Felixmüller - Kohlenbergarbeiter
Colour woodcut on chamois-coloured paper 56 x 39 cm (58.5 x 43 cm) Picture frame (with removable back). Signed, numbered and titled. Proof 11/30. - The printing plate is slightly tilted and extends over the upper left sheet edge. Fresh colours. The paper somewhat browned overall. With five small backed tears and few inconspicuous folds.
This sheet, which is among the central works in Felixmüller's graphic oeuvre, exists in different colour variations. Our sheet shows the haggard coal miners with knobbly, sunken shoulders. In later variations, he rendered the area of the shoulders more strongly rounded. The printing plate was placed somewhat obliquely and reaches up to the upper left edge of the sheet. This is familiar from other sheets in the edition as well.
