Joannis Avramidis' sculptural work is considered one of the outstanding artistic positions of the second half of the 20th century. The quest for the 'absolute figure' is the focus of his oeuvre, for which the artist finds the essential inspiration in classical antiquity and in the early Italian Renaissance. Two eras in which the human proportions define the shape of an ideal, as in the works of Avramidis. This aspect is also evident in the present Bronze 'Mittlere Figur II'. Arranged on a vertical axis, Avramidis emulates curvatures similar to the contours of the human body without specifically depicting them.
'The structure is guided by emotion, and the entire process of trying to establish the connection between the inner structure of volumes and their formulation in the harmonious rhythm of intertwined hemispheres and cylinders is determined by the concern to reflect all transitions, all fluctuations of a clearly defined human being. The sensitivity, the fleeting emotions are reflected in the imprint of the absolute form. The sculptures by Avramidis are not pillars, not robots, not blind masks but traces of an existential path; they are poetic testaments of the hardship of life, highlighting a clear conscience.'
