Jacopo Sansovino (Jacopo d´Antonio Tatti), attributed to

A bronze figure of a seated man

Older patina. Designed in the round for a frontal viewpoint. Depicting a recumbent figure of a bearded older man with a cloth tied around his head and a further cloth draped across his hips. He holds his left leg drawn inwards and rests his weight upon his right hand, his head is tilted upwards and his left arm raised as if to grasp at something. The slightly flattened underside of the bronze indicates that it may originally have sat on the corner of an angular base as part of a larger allegorical group. The attribution to Jacopo Sansovino is based on a spoken statement made by Ulrich Middeldorf in Florence. The Florentine sculptor and architect Jacopo Sansovino entered the studio of Andrea Sansovino in Rome in 1502. Following several important commissions in Florence and Rome, he moved to Venice in 1527, where he became one of the most important artists of his era.
With traces of soldering an a small drilled hole to the underside. Loosely attached to a round marble plinth. Height 15 cm (without plinth).
