Oskar Mulley

Bildstock im Gebirge
Circa 1930

Oil on canvas 54.3 x 70.3 cm Framed. Signed 'MULLEY' lower left. - In good condition.

Oskar Mulley was born in Carinthia and taught at the Munich Trade School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He moved to Kufstein in Tyrol in 1918 and there became adept at painting alpine scenes. He became famous for his dramatically composed mountainous views, painted in a pastose technique using a spatula. Humans are never visible in works, and only the occasional secluded farmstead or wayside shrine alludes to the presence of man and stands in sharp contrast to the towering immensity of his mountains.
