An ivory netsuke of an amakurikara dragon. 19th century

The scaly body coiled tightly around a hardly visible ceremonial sword, the two-horned head facing to the front. Mounted on an oblong wood and ivory plaque with a moveable pin fitted with a cord hole.
Length 7.8 cm

The full name of this subject is amaryû kurikara ken (Rain dragon Kurikara sword). This type of sword is associated with Fudô Myôô as well as Kobo Daishi, who used a sword in an amagoi ceremony, in which he prayed for rain in order to save the people from drought.
