Georg Flegel, circle of

Still Life with Almonds, Sweetmeats and Drinking Vessels Still Life with Figs, Sweetmeats and a Wine Glass

Oil on panel. 16.5 x 24 and 16.5 x 23.5 cm.

This pair of works is traditionally thought to have been a wedding gift on occasion of the marriage of Egon VIII, Imperial Count of Fürstenberg-Heiligenberg (1588-1635) and Anna Maria Countess of Hohenzollern-Hechingen (1603-1652) in 1619. If this is true, the work would have been in the possession of this aristocratic family for four centuries, until 2013.
The works can be attributed to the circle of the famous German still life painter Georg Flegel due to the close-up composition, viewed slightly from above, and the borrowing of several motifs from his repertoire.

Provenance

House Fürstenberg, probably since 1619, recorded since 1930 (with a label and collector's stamp "MF" beneath a crown for Prince Maximilian of Fürstenberg and the year 1930 to the reverse of the panel), until 2013. - Private collection, Germany.
