A Berlin KPM Munich metal mounted porcelain vase with views of Berlin.

Munich vase no. 1 with fine foliate etching to the gilt ground and the white ground of the neck. Two labelled scenes of the Berlin Museum and the Berlin Werdesche Church within oval reserves to the body. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark over KPM. H 50 cm, diameter 25 cm.
1830. The form based on Friedrich von Gärtner's model for the Nymphenburg manufactory.

The buildings depicted on this vase were designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and completed in the year of its making, thus this piece probably represents their first appearance in designs for porcelain. The vase is listed in the royal accounts as being commissioned on 21st August 1830 for Minister Duchess von Reden, wife of Duke Friedrich Wilhelm von Reden (1752 - 1815). Duke Friedrich was declared Minister of Mining in 1803 and played an important role in the modernisation of the mining and metalwork industries in Prussia.

Provenance

Duchess Friederike von Reden (1774 - 1854).
The Twinight Collection.
