A rare Meissen porcelain covered beaker with chinoiserie decor.

Painted to both sides with chinoiserie family scenes. Unmarked. A chip to the base; slight wear to the decor; an old, yellowed restoration to the lid. H 15.6 cm.
Ca. 1725, the decor presumably attributed to Johann Gregorius Hoeroldt.

This piece's attribution to Hoeroldt and the exact date could be ascertained due to the existence of a second beaker with an identical cartouche and similar family scenes, which is sadly missing its lid. The comparable piece is inscribed "Rahel Eleonor Höroldt / d. 26. Nov. / 1725", and its publisher Pietsch assumes that Hoeroldt painted it for his wife Rahel Eleonore. Stylistic elements of the painting in the present work, such as the lack of perspective, also support an allocation to this period.

Provenance

From an old Rhenish family collection.
