A Meissen porcelain plate from the Christie-Miller service.

Of octagonal form, decorated to the centre with a scene of soldiers drinking and playing cards. The border with quatrefoil cartouches framing river landscapes. Blue crossed swords mark, impressed no. 21. Several bubbles to the glaze of the centre, concealed by decor. Diameter 26.3 cm.

On 7th July 1970, 61 pieces of a particularly finely decorated service from the estate of S.R. Christie-Miller were sold at auction, this was henceforth known as the Christie-Miller service. The excellent decor can be attributed to the leading Meissen painters Johann Georg Heintze, Christian Friedrich Herold and Bonaventura Gottlieb Häuer.
