A Strasbourg porcelain figure of Cupid seated.

Grey-tinted porcelain with mixed decor. Based on Etienne Maurice Falconet's sculpture "L´Amour menaçant". Impressed ligatured IH and F9 marks, illegible blue mark. The upper part of the bow and several ribbons lost, some minor firing cracks. H 20.8 cm.
Joseph Hannong, 1771 - 1779.

The plaster model for the sculpture upon which this piece is based was exhibited in 1755 and became an immediate success. The first small porcelain reproductions were produced by the Sèvres manufactory after 1757.
