Jan Pauwel Gillemans was the son and pupil of Jan Pauwel Gillemans the Elder, but also learnt under the still life painter Joris van Son. He specialised in depicting flowers and fruit, but often combined his still lifes with landscapes and architecture. The present work combines all of these elements to a fine and characteristic work.
