Portrait of a Man

Oil on canvas. 55.5 x 46 cm.

This portrait of a bearded middle-aged man was formerly attributed to Henri Fantin-Latour, and the sitter was identified as the artist Edouard Manet. Neither of these facts can be verified, but it can be assumed that the piece is the work of a French artist of the 19th century who has captured the vital appearance of the man in quick, sure brushstrokes.
