Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. Soundphoto. 17.9 x 16.5 cm (22.3 x 17.2 cm). 'International News Photos' stamp and paper stripe, thereon detailed typewritten information about the subject, on the verso. - The lower edge with small fold (within the margin). Matted.

The shot was taken with the help of a field ion microscope developed by the German-American physicist Erwin W. Müller in 1951. For the first time, it was possible to take clear and focused pictures of individual atoms.
