Franz Radziwill - Zweimal Eva
Franz Radziwill
Zweimal Eva
1967
Pencil drawing and watercolour on wove paper 50 x 35 cm Framed under glass. Signed 'Franz Radziwill.' in pencil lower right. - With minimal marginal defects.
Franz Radziwill's oeuvre contains very few nudes, which makes this watercoloured pencil drawing all the more significant. The work reflects on the Old Testament theme of woman as temptress bringing evil (lat. malum) into the world in the form of an apple (lat. malus). The artist has highlighted his fine, old master style line drawing with vivid, coloured accents. The "architect" Radziwill has also depicted the interior and wood grain in a striking manner. (We would like to thank Gerd Presler, Weingarten, for the art historical advice)
