'The idea of the 'white' picture thrives on the relativity of the colours, that although white belongs to the colour spectrum, it does not define any single series or position outside of the coloured world. Only that purely neutral white is for example warm or cold, or leans towards yellow or red, blue or black. It appears affected by the cosmos of colours to which it belongs. It's distinctiveness is not that it isn't a colour, a non- or primary colour. It has a lot more to do with the quality of perception, the strange, indifferent resistance which it provides the eye. In its purest form - beyond painting - white would be more understood as transparent light, the bright abyss, pure clarity. Girke translates the theoretical or ideal component of this colour into the visible. […] By doing so white becomes the decisive base of his painting, the reason or medium which conditions what is shown in the picture field'.
