'Pavel Pepperstein works as a visual artist, writer and art theorist and is considered to be a leading figure of the young Moscow art scene in Russia. [...] He became internationally recognized after his participation in the Venice Biennale in 2009 where he designed highly detailed, meaningful visions of imaginary places in the picture series 'Landscape of Future'. With a light, characteristic style, he casually links themes from Russian or ancient myths to suprematist motifs in his drawings and acrylic pictures, or well-known pictures and icons of mass culture to new mythical stories, whose message can never be clearly understood. The writing often serves as an illustrative or annotational element. With a playful air he tries out the most diverse design possibilities, whilst critically analysing the traditional canons of art, literature, politics and media culture, questioning this new means of ironic refraction anew'.
