Pietro Cignaroli belonged to the extensive Cignaroli family of painters in Verona. He was a brother of Martino Cignaroli, by whom he was initially taught. After this he was taught further by Pieter Mulier, also known as Cavalier Tempesta, following him to Piacenza and Milan. Pietro was later active in Genoa. His works are rarely traceable today, but during his lifetime they were highly sought after in his homeland as well as France, Germany and Spain.
