A large Berlin KPM porcelain fruit bowl with floral and gilt decor.

A large Berlin KPM porcelain fruit bowl with floral and gilt decor. Comprising a "schinkelkorb" formed basket, drum shaped pedestal and associated square plinth. Blue sceptre mark, red imperial orb mark, painter's marks. The basket restored. H 52 cm.
Before 1836.

This large fruit basket belonged to a dinner service which Frederick William III presented to his niece Marie Elisabeth of Prussia (1815 - 1885) on occasion of her marriage to Prince Karl of Hesse-Darmstadt on 22nd October 1836. Numerous pieces from this service were auctioned on 6th July 1925 by Fischer of Lucerne in the sale "Besitz vormals regierender Fürsten und ihrer Familien", including one of the original four fruit baskets.
