A Berlin KPM porcelain plate with the ruins of Stolzenfels Castle. Inscribed "Capelle am Rhein" in black to the reverse. Blue sceptre mark with orange subsidiary mark, painter's mark, pressnummer 25. Some scratches in the lower right of the depiction. Diameter 25 cm.
Ca. 1815.

The ruins of Stolzenfels Castle belonged to the town of Kapellen-Stolzenfels, which was given as a gift by the town of Koblenz to Crown Prince Frederick William of Prussia in 1815. This plate shows the ruins decades before they were ammended according to Schinkel and Stüler's plans to become the epitome of Prussian Rhine romanticism.
