An Italian alabaster figure of a chimaera supporting a motto. On an ebonised wooden plinth, supporting a shield that reads: "QUOMODO CECIDISTI DE CELO LUCIFER" (How art thou fallen from heaven, son of the morning; Isaiah 14:12). The wings lost, glue to the tail. H 25.5 cm.
Late 17th/early 18th C., the stone probably Volterra.
