A North German carved oak "schenkschieve" cabinet.

The locks of iron. A North German carved oak "schenkschieve" cabinet. Carved to the front with opulent architectural decor and figures of saints. Inscribed "BENEDICTIO DOMINI DIVITES FACIT SINE DOLORE" (God's blessing brings wealth without pain) to the architrave. H 206, W 155, D 58.5 cm.
Schleswig / Frisia, primarily 1654.

The well-known Schleswig carver and cabinetmaker Berend Cornelissen was active in Husum, where he produced numerous pieces similar to this until his death in 1684. In contrast to his works, the most famous of which are today kept in the Ostenfelder Bauernhaus in Husum and the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, the decor of this piece is much flatter and more ornamental. Thus making a localisation in North Frisia is more likely.
