This portrait of a lady, dated 1649, is the only signed work by the Rotterdam artist Isaack de Colonia and thus of importance for the reconstruction of the oeuvre of this portrait painter. Little is known about his artistic career: His father was also an artist and originated from Antwerp, Isaack de Colonia himself was active in Rotterdam and Delft. This finely painted half figure portrait of a lady of 29 years probably had a counterpart depicting her husband.
