Gawriil Pawlowitsch Kondratjenko

Evening Mood by the Newa in St. Petersburg

Oil on canvas. 49 x 90 cm.
Signed lower left: P. Kondratenko (in cyrillic).

Kondratjenko studied at the Academy in St. Petersburg from 1873 to 1882 under Mikhail Konstantinovich Clodt, and the poetic and atmospheric mood of his landscapes was influenced by the works of his famous teacher. Apart from several mediterranean motifs, which speak for an otherwise undocumented sojourn to Italy, Kondratjenko is known to have painted scenes from St. Petersburg and its surroundings, Georgia and Crimea. He was among the artists who participated in the great exhibition of Russian art held in St. Petersburg in 1923.

Provenance
