Veit Königer, attributed to

A carved limewood figure of an angel in prayer, attributed to Veit Königer.

Carved in the round. With original polychromy and gilding, overpainted to the plinth.. A figure of an angel in a billowing cloak standing an a suppliant pose with clasped hands extended in prayer. The late Baroque figure can be dated to circa 1760 and displays strong similarity to Veit Königer's works in the high altar of St. Johann in Saggautal (Steiermark) and the Virgin Immaculata in St. Peter in Graz (op. cit.).
With an open crack to the reverse of the figure and plinth and minimal wear. Height 104 cm.
