Probably Swabia late 15th century

A late 15th century, presumably Swabian, figure of Saint Barbara.

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse deeply hollowed out. With remains of older polychromy.. A full-figure depiction of the crowned Saint designed for a frontal viewpoint. She stands in contrapposto and holds her attribute, the chalice, in her left hand. The Saint's gown reaches down to her extended right foot, and she holds her voluminous cloak drawn across her body to form thick, curving folds.
Wear with losses to the crown. The surface worm-eaten throughout. Two fingers of the left hand and the front right edge of the plinth partially replaced. Height 74 cm.
