Bavaria circa 1500

A Bavarian carved limewood figure of a female saint, circa 1500.

Carved in the round. With extensive remains of the presumably original polychromy.. A standing, full-figure depiction of a saint on a moulded hexagonal plinth, designed for a frontal viewpoint. The attribute in her extended left hand is lost. The Saint's face is framed by long waves of hair, which are depicted in detail to the front and back of the work. The figure's sculptural quality is largely defined by the cloak drawn across her body, which shows a rich and partially undercut play of drapery throughout. The sculpture originates from Landshut in Lower Bavaria.
Wear with very minor losses. Height 45 cm.
