Probably Flemish circa 1700

A presumably Flemish carved boxwood figure of the Virgin and Child with John the Baptist.

Carved in the round and partially freestanding. Minimal remains of former polychromy.. The Virgin is seated on a block-like throne holding the infant Jesus in Her lap. The infant John the Baptist stands to her left side dressed in only a cloak and holding a book. The front of the plinth is decorated with a winged angel's head.
Minimal wear. Mounted on a modern wooden socle. Height 31 cm (without socle).
