''The interest of my body-motor painting activities is directed away from all colour and compositional qualities towards the unexplored possibilities of the direct application of colour and stroke by the artist's body. […] If autonomous painting still has unexpected chances, they are safe in the consequences of a direct sensory-carnal application in order to expose the haptic-physical basis of all painting. Very different picture forms will undoubtedly arise than those academic compositions in blue left by Y.K. which fascinate everyone who thinks that body language was used in the painting. Ideas in this direction require a full and intensive engagement to take shape. […] To no longer hold the picture at bay from a partner also means abandoning the square format. I am also still undecided, hence the many remnants of compositional art in my work. (Arnulf Rainer, Das Bild als Partner, Über Hand-, Fuß- und Fingermalerei, in: R. H. Fuchs (ed.), Arnulf Rainer, exhib.cat. Historisches Museum der Stadt Wien et.al., Vienna 1989, p. 48).
