The close relationship between Pan Gongshou and Wang Wenzhi is evinced by the numerous collaborative works by the two artists. Most of their collaborations feature the paintings of Pan Gongshou accompanied by Wang Wenzhi's calligraphy. (see also Contag, Victoria and Wang Chi-ch'ien, Seals of Chinese Painters and Collectors of the Ming and Ch'ing Periods, Hong Kong 1966, p 447)
In his signature the artist uses the word "lin", that describes a special method of copying in which a kind of "loose copy" was made from the original painting.
